We’ve all experienced a time where we are telling someone something, but when finished all you get from the other person is a blank stare. They didn’t listen to, or hear what you were saying.Though most of us claim to be great listeners, we often struggle to hear amongst all the other demands and ‘noise’ in our everyday lives which fight for our attention.

It is frustrating when our message is not heard or received. Quite often it can negatively affect our relationships. Being able to listen effectively and truly hear someone is one of the most powerful tools for building and strengthening relationships.

Do you feel like you are just going through the motions each day? Do you ever feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to do get everything done? Do you ever wonder why your to-do list never seems to get shorter? Do you feel like there should be something more?

In today’s world we are constantly multi-tasking and are always in ‘go’ or ‘do’ mode. It seems as if we don’t even have the time to stop and take a breath. As technology has increased the ability for us to do more, from virtually anywhere, it seems like we now have more to do each day.

Opening up, letting down our guard, and letting others in can be a difficult thing to do – even more so if you’ve been burned in the past. However, until we invite and accept more vulnerability into our lives, we run the risk of ‘numbing’ ourselves and not truly experiencing all that life has to offer.

Finding the balance between sharing too much and too little takes practice. And, even though we all want to be able to connect and have healthy relationships in our lives, we sometimes struggle with figuring out how to connect on a deeper level without being taken advantage of.
